What is Goodwill?
Goodwill is a nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment placement, and other services for people who have disabilities or face other challenges. Goodwill also accepts donations of items such as clothing, household goods, and toys.
Some people mistakenly believe that Goodwill is a charity that donates all of its proceeds to needy people. However, Goodwill is actually a for-profit company. In fact, only a small portion of Goodwill’s proceeds are donated to charity. The majority of the organization’s revenue is generated from the sale of donated goods in Goodwill stores.
What does Goodwill do with the donations they receive?
Goodwill is a nonprofit organization that provides training, employment and support services to people with disabilities or disadvantages. Goodwill accepts donations of clothes, furniture, appliances, electronics and other items. The organization then sells these items in its thrift stores or online. The proceeds from the sale of these donated items are used to fund the training and employment programs offered by Goodwill.
What are the benefits of donating to Goodwill?
When you donate to Goodwill, you create opportunities for individuals in your community looking to find a job and support their families.
Through our job training and education programs, we help people earn their GEDs, learn English, find new careers and much more. In fact, 82% of the people we serve secure jobs within six months of completing our programs.
Your donations also help the environment.
Goodwill is a leader in green initiatives, keeping millions of pounds of usable goods from entering our landfills each year.
We also diverttextiles from the waste stream through our textile recycling program – keeping clothes, linens and other household items out of landfills.
In addition to keeping usable goods out of landfills, your donations help us keep pace with the latest trends.
How can I donate to Goodwill?
The easiest way to donate to Goodwill is to drop off your items at a local donation center. You can also schedule a free home pick-up by visiting goodwill.org or calling 1-800- GOODWILL. If you have a large load or unusually shaped/heavy items, please contact your local Goodwill to determine the best way to donate.
