A Place Called Home provide s a safe, nurturing environment with programs that challenge young people to realize their potential and enter the workforce prepared and motivated to succeed. Our philosophy is based on building trusting relationships with young people in order to help them reach their highest potential.

A Place Called Home’s programs focus on three key areas: education, arts, and wellness. Through our programming, we provide youth with the tools they need to succeed in school, develop healthy life choices, and become contributing members of the community.

A Place Called Home was founded in 1993 by entrepreneur/philanthropist Linda Lucks. We are headquartered in South Los Angeles, and serve youth ages 8-21 from throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.

What We Do

A Place Called Home provides long-term housing and wraparound supportive services to some of society’s most vulnerable populations: low-income families, victims of domestic violence, the formerly incarcerated, and others who have nowhere else to turn.

Providing a safe place to stay

A Place Called Home provides a safe place to stay for those who are homeless. We have a variety of services available to help our residents get back on their feet, including:

-A safe place to sleep
-Shower and laundry facilities
-Job training and placement assistance
-Transportation assistance
-Legal assistance

Offering food and clothing

A Place Called Home is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Los Angeles, California. They offer a safe haven and support to disadvantaged children and young adults ages 8-21 years old, who live in underserved communities where they experience poverty, gang violence, crime, and dysfunction. They provide programs in education, arts, and well-being; mentorship; college and career readiness; and personal development. The goal is to help participants become self-sufficient adults who contribute to society.

A Place Called Home provides programs that include:

Food and Clothing: A hot meal is served every day at the Center, as well as snacks and drinks. They also have a clothing closet with new and gently used clothes for men, women, and children of all sizes.

Education Programs: They offer tutoring, homework help, GED preparation, high school diploma completion, college placement assistance, college scholarships, financial aid advice, and more.

Arts Programs: Participants can choose from offers such as digital music production workshops, DJing classes dance classes (hip hop, modern/contemporary), photography classes , drama/theater productions , an poetry slam team. These are led by professional teaching artists..

Wellness Programs: They have a full-time Licensed Clinical Social Worker on staff who offers individual counseling sessions as well as group therapy sessions focused on topics such as grief & loss teen pregnancy , social skills development , etc. They also offer yoga & meditation classes , health & nutrition education , cooking demonstrations & capacity building workshops.. Personal Development Programs: These include weekly personal development workshops on topics such as goal setting , conflict resolution , time management , money management , etc. that are led by staff or guest speakers.. College & Career Readiness Programs: They offer assistance with resume writing , mock interviews , job shadowing & internships , scholarship searching & essay writing .. Participation in any of these programs is free of charge..
