The Need for Christian Charity
It is well-documented that there is a growing need for Christian charity. The Bible is full of admonitions to help the poor, the widowed, and the orphaned, and Jesus Christ himself said that caring for the needy was one of the ways we could show our love for Him. Christian charity can take many forms, from give food or money to the homeless, to volunteering at a soup kitchen, to donating clothes or toys to a local children’s hospital. There are countless ways to show Christian charity, and no act of kindness is too small.
The problem of poverty
The most pressing problems in our society are the ones that touch on human need and human flourishing. In our affluent society, it can be easy to forget that not everyone enjoys the same degree of comfort and security.For Christians, the call to love our neighbor as ourselves compels us to reach out to those who are suffering. Poverty is a complex issue, and there are many ways to address it. But at its root, poverty is about a lack of resources.
Christians have always been at the forefront of providing for those in need, whether it’s through soup kitchens, food pantries, or other forms of direct assistance. But we also recognize that simply providing people with resources doesn’t always address the underlying causes of poverty. That’s why Christian charities also focus on initiatives like job training, financial literacy education, and other programs that help people become self-sufficient.
Ultimately, our goal is to see people lifted out of poverty and restored to flourishing. We believe that every person has inherent dignity and worth, and we refuse to accept a status quo in which millions of our neighbors are struggling just to get by. Our faith calls us to do better, and we will continue to work tirelessly until everyone has what they need to thrive.
The problem of inequality

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
This passage tells us that love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or boastful; it is not rude or self-seeking; it is not easily angered or quick to hold a grudge; and it rejoices in truth instead of evil. In other words, love puts others first and actively seeks their good regardless of the cost to oneself. This kind of love can only come from God because it runs completely contrary to our fallen human nature.
The principle of giving
The principle of giving is one that is based on the concept of love. When we give out of love, we are motivated by a desire to see the other person happy and thriving. We are not looking for anything in return, but simply want to share our good fortune with others.
